Sofie Amalie Klougart (b. 1987), is a visual artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She graduated as a photojournalist from Danish School of Media and Journalism in 2013, while also working at the Danish newspaper Information. She has since worked as a photographer, a teacher and as freelance lecturer. She has held various positions at the Danish Folk Highschool as an educator of conceptual art photography and documentary photography, e.g. Krabbesholm Højskole and Grundtvigs Højskole.
She has exhibited her photographic projects in renowned institutions as well as in more experimental formats; in museums, art centers and at various photo festivals in Denmark and abroad. She has participated in projects at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, had her works presented at Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling, and in Øksnehallen, Copenhagen. She has also been included in the series of exhibitions, ”Young Danish Photography”, at Fotografisk Center. ”The Calling – sites for myths” is her first solo exhibition of a larger scale. Furthermore, she has been invited to show her works at Copenhagen Photofestival in Denmark, Landskrona Fotofestival in Sweden, and Photo Kathmandu in Nepal, amongst others.
Klougart photos fall within the category of both art and photo journalism. Thematically, her primarily long-term projects revolve around love and migration, owning her international recognition. She has been awarded The Danish Press Photo of the Year several times and in 2012 she was selected for The Joop Swart Masterclass arranged by World Press Photo presenting the work “Philosophy in the Bedroom”. In 2015 she was selected for The LensCulture Emerging Talent Award with the long term project “Reaching Europe”, raising awareness to the migration crisis.
